The Counties Manukau Steelers have gone down to Wellington 29-14 in their NPC quarter-final at Sky Stadium in Wellington on Friday night.

The Steelers fell behind early, despite dominating possession and territory.

A yellow card to hooker Zuriel Togiatama for an accidental head clash midway through the first half proved costly, as the Lions scored two tries while he was off the field.

Reon Graham’s side fought back however, scoring a brilliant try before the break.

All Black halfback Cam Roigard scored a solo effort to bring the visitors right back into the contest but Wellington’s defence proved crucial as they continued to thwart what the Steelers threw at them.

It caps a strong season by the Steelers, who fought back from an 0-4 start to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
