The PIC Steelers have scored a crucial 39-29 Bunnings Warehouse NPC win over Southland at Navigation Homes Stadium to keep themselves in the hunt for the quarter-final berth.
Reon Graham’s side claimed maximum points on the back of some enterprising attack that saw his side scored six tries in the victory.
Winger Josh Gray, who had a strong all-round game, scored a hat-trick within the first 45 minutes of the match, while first-five Riley Hohepa was impressive with ball in hand and was involved in a number of his side’s scores.
Hohepa, halfback Liam Daniela and a penalty try contributed to the home side’s scoring.
The win takes Counties Manukau to 13 competition points – one off eighth spot as it stands.
It is the perfect way to begin the side’s storm week, with the PIC Steelers back in action on Wednesday night when Canterbury comes to Pukekohe.
