The PIC Steelers have toppled Canterbury for a famous 31-29 win at Navigation Homes Stadium with Tevita Ofa’s sideline conversion after the full-time siren proving the difference.

The Steelers had an attacking scrum five metres out from the Canterbury line while trailing 29-24 and took the ball off the back through Hoskins Sotutu and put the ball through the hands to find winger Blake Makiri diving over in the corner to lock things up.

Ofa, not the Steelers regular goal-kicker, calmly plotted the conversion to send the side into raptures and secure their second NPC win on the bounce.

Reon Graham’s side trailed 10-0 after the first quarter but fought their way into the contest with first half tries from James Thompson and Ioane Moananu.

The game was tied up at 17-17 at halftime.

Canterbury took control with a pair of tries, leaving the Steelers with a comeback job in the final quarter.

Adam Brash’s 61^st minute try gave Graham’s side a sniff and they were good enough to seal the deal with the game in the balance.

The second win in their storm week moves the Steelers into eighth on the NPC table.

They finish their storm week with a trip to play Tasman on Sunday afternoon.
