The Counties Manukau Steelers have secured an NPC quarter-final berth after a 45-26 thrashing of Manawatu in Palmerston North on Saturday.
It took Reon Graham’s side the first half to establish themselves, as they trailed through the opening 40 minutes.
But a clinical second half, inspired by the return of All Blacks halfback Cam Roigard, saw the Steelers take control of the game.
Southland’s win over North Harbour in Invercargill meant that the Steelers were assured of a playoff spot for the first time since 2016.
Canterbury’s win over Waikato means the Steelers finish the round robin in eighth position and will travel to play Wellington on Friday
