The Counties Manukau PIC Steelers have held on to win a Mitre 10 Cup cliff hanger 31-27 over Taranaki in Inglewood.

All Blacks Sevens star Etene Nanai-Seturo scored a brilliant solo try with less than 10 minutes left to push the visitors in front but they were then forced to defend their own line for an eternity after the siren had sounded.

Taranaki, needing a try to win the game, opted to take scrum after scrum as the PIC Steelers were penalised.

After six minutes of additional time, former All Blacks skipper Kieran Read, who was superb once again in what will be his final match of the season, produced a turnover that would seal victory.
