The Counties Manukau PIC Steelers have finished their 2020 Mitre Cup campaign on a high with a 25-17 win over Southland at Navigation Homes Stadium in Pukekohe.
The first half was a tight affair with neither team able to capitalise on their possession on the opposition red zone in front of a strong home crowd with many dressed in theme with it being Friday the 13th.
The home side opened the scoring late in the half and took a 7-0 lead into the sheds.
The second half was more flowing as the game opened up and both sides showed enterprise at times.
A late try to replacement hooker Zuriel Togiatama secured the home side victory on a beautiful November night in Pukekohe.
Southland managed a consolation try on the siren but it meant the Steelers avoided the wooden spoon and picked up a third win from their 10 games.
