Two Counties Energy Heat stars have secured coveted Black Ferns central contracts for the first time with Mererangi Paul and Grace Gago inking deals.
Paul (Pukekohe) had a breakout campaign in Super Rugby Aupiki with the Chiefs, helping her side make it to the competition final.
Gago (Manurewa) enjoyed a terrific campaign with the Blues as well.
“It is a great reward for the hard work and energy both women have put in over a long period to get to this point,” said Counties Manukau Rugby chief executive Aaron Lawton.
“On behalf of their Heat teammates and the entire Union, we congratulate both Mererangi and Grace for this huge honour and we wish them well for a massive season ahead.”
Four players in total from the Counties Energy Heat are included in the list of players announced by New Zealand Rugby today as having Black Ferns contracts for 2023.
Long-time Black Ferns representatives Hazel Tubic and Arihiana Marino-Tauhinu (both Chiefs and Manurewa) have picked up contracts once again.
