Molia pumped to play in front of local fans

Local hero Sione Molia is pumped to be playing at home in front of fans for the first time in over two years as he prepares for this weekend’s Oceania Super Sevens at Navigation Homes Stadium.

The joint initiative between Oceania Rugby and Counties Manukau Rugby sees many of the Pacific’s leading teams playing the first major sevens tournament on New Zealand since the outbreak of the COVID pandemic.

It is also the last key warm-up for the Commonwealth Games.

Molia, who played provincial rugby with Counties Manukau and club rugby with Karaka, is excited about the prospect.

"This is such a big year for our team with Comm Games and World Cup,” Molia said. “Playing an Oceania tournament in preparation is really important and I'm excited that we're playing in Pukekohe - it's going to be an awesome weekend."

Molia and his All Blacks Sevens teammates help kick off the tournament as they take on Tonga in the opening game at 11am on Friday.
