The Counties Energy Heat have lost a close Farah Palmer Cup game 27-19 to Wellington at Navigation Homes Stadium on Sunday.
The Pride hit the ground running and raced out to an early lead on the back of a pair of first half tries before JP Faamausili’s side fought back to make a contest of it just before the break when prop Lauryn Steed crashed over.
A second try to Steed in the second half and another to Glory Aiono had the home side right back in the fight with a little over five minutes to play.
But Wellington scored a match-winner to seal their victory.
The Counties Energy Heat are back at it on the road in Palmerston North on Saturday when they face the Manawatu Cyclones.
