Counties Manukau Rugby’s Head of High Performance Chad Shepherd has resigned his position to take up a tremendous opportunity with the Blues in Super Rugby.
Shepherd, who has spent the past four years with CMRFU, has been appointed the new Head of Performance Development at the Blues organisation in what will see the Pukekohe-born ex-halfback be based in the city fulltime.
“It’s a little bittersweet as Counties Manukau is home and we are really moving in the right direction,” said Shepherd.
“However, the new role is an amazing opportunity to work in a Super Rugby environment all year round so am really excited for what is ahead.”
Counties Manukau Rugby chief executive Aaron Lawton was thrilled for Shepherd but was disappointed to lose someone of his calibre.
“Obviously we are gutted to be losing him,” said Lawton.
“But the fact he’s getting to step up to a big role at a Super club is a testament to his reputation and skill sets and is in line with our core purpose to grow, empower and inspire our people through rugby.
“This is a big loss for us as Chad has done a tremendous job in the academy space. But he will no doubt stay connected to the Union and we wish him all the best.
“Congratulations Chad. We are very sorry to see you go and a massive thanks on behalf of the Union for everything you’ve done for us. You’ve been a tremendous asset and the Blues are lucky to have you.”
Shepherd’s finishing date is today while CMRFU has begun the search to find his replacement.
