Counties Manukau has come up agonisingly close in both the men’s and women’s competitions at the Northern Region Sevens tournament in Whangarei on Saturday.
Both sides lost the finals, having played terrific footy to make it to the title games.
The Counties Manukau Women went down to Bay of Plenty 31-14 in the final, having beaten Waikato 26-24 to get to the final.
“The girls did amazing today and even though we fell short in the final, overall campaign has been a success,” said player-coach Hazel Tubic.
“I think we have found some great up and coming players from this group and feel we have achieved the purpose of running this Sevens programme. Everyone should be proud of their efforts over the past few weeks and look forward to what the future holds for them and Counties Heat rugby.”
The Counties Manukau men went down to North Harbour 21-15 in the final after beating Waikato 19-17 to make it into the gold medal game.
