Counties Manukau Rugby has adopted a new constitution that will change the way club rugby is governed after a unanimous vote at a Special General Meeting at Navigation Homes Stadium on Monday.
The new constitution, which has been worked on for the past 18 months, was met with overwhelming support from the clubs – all voting to approve a move away from the Council of Delegates system to a new structure that will see the Counties Manukau Board get more control of how club rugby is governed in the region.
Clubs will have greater input into the make-up of the board as part of the new structure and the board will be completely reshaped by next year’s AGM.
It was decided at the meeting that current CODs chair and deputy chair Andy Baker and Trevor Strang will stay on as Interim Club Rugby Directors until February next year.
The Club Leaders Group will appoint a third Interim Club Rugby Director and their two additional appointees to the Community Rugby Subcommittee at their first meeting in November. Applications for the third Interim Club Rugby Director position are now open with further details at the bottom of this article.
Craig Carter and Arizona Leger will stand down as directors effective immediately.
The remaining Directors will stay on as Interim Directors until February next year when they will need to re-apply if they wish to seek re-election. The exception is chair Gary Millington who will stay on until 2025 for continuity at which point he will need to re-apply as an Appointed Director.
By April next year, a completely new-look board will be appointed.
The Community Rugby Subcommittee will take over the running of club rugby from the November meeting.
