The Counties Manukau Steelers have fallen to Waikato 26-20 in their final match of a challenging Storm Week in the Bunnings Warehouse NPC at Navigation Homes Stadium.
The Steelers had a chance to steal victory in the final moments of the match but over-threw an attacking line-out five metres from the line that allowed the visitors to hold on.
Reon Graham’s side led early but were punished when William Furniss was sin-binned for a high tackle not long before halftime.
Waikato were able to take control of the game and did enough to hold on.
It is the third straight loss for the Steelers in the opening two weekends of action.
They are back at home against Tasman next Saturday afternoon.
