Signed legends jersey to help Vidiri
Keep an eye out on a Trademe in the coming days for a one-of-a-kind All Blacks jersey that will be up for grabs with all proceeds going towards getting the body of PIC Steelers icon Joeli Vidiri home.
The story behind the jersey is a beautiful one. Over 15 years ago, Vidiri donated it to raise funds for Kidney Kids for which he was a patron. It is signed by some true legends of the game including Colin Meads and his brother Stan, Michael Jones, Sonny Bill Williams, Inga Tuigamala, himself, and over 30 others.
The owner of the jersey, Auckland businessman Mark Darrow, has gifted the jersey back to Joeli’s friends and family to help with the fundraising initiative.
True friendship
The great Joeli Vidiri was always well looked after by close mates and local businessmen Gary Millington, Michael Scott and Dean Littin during his lifetime.
And in death, the proud rugby men have continued to look after their mate, spearheading the drive to get his body home to New Zealand for a service at Navigation Homes Stadium.
Chalky kept busy by CMRFU staff
Steelers physio Jarrod “Chalky” Stevenson is doing a roaring trade on the side patching up CMRFU staffers who are already coming unstuck from their return to training following the Christmas break. Rumour has it that Operations boss Dale Tucker is his latest patient after pulling a hamstring muscle during a recent run while trying to keep up with colleagues Jed Knox and Liam Daniela.

Ice, ice baby
Waiuku Rugby Club is looking for an old ice freezer as a donation to the club this season.
Their existing one, which stores all the ice the club uses, has broken down and they are keen to acquire a new one if someone has a spare they’d be happy to part with.
Rugby well and truly alive in Tuakau
The Tuakau Rugby Club has confirmed a new junior and senior committee for the 2022 season.
The club entered a senior team for the first time in many years in 2020 and have worked hard to continue that momentum over the past couple of seasons.
Club heroes to be recognised
A new initiative we will roll out this season is a video interview with a club hero from each of the 17 clubs in Counties Manukau.
We will begin the weekly series shortly but are keen to get a nomination in from each club on who they would like us to focus on from their ranks.
Please let us know by emailing annette.tossell@steelers.co.nz.
