Tuakau/Onewhero will play Rosehill College in the final of the Counties Manukau Rugby Secondary Schools 1st XV competition after both schools won through tight semi-finals on Saturday.
A double to Soni Moala-Liava’a and a try to Calum O’Connor proved enough for Rosehill College to edge last year’s runners-up Hauraki Plains College 15-13 in a terrific game at Hauraki Plains College.
Tuakau/Onewhero, who went through the round robin stages undefeated, were pushed extremely hard by a resilient Waiuku College – eventually winning 31-26 – in the other semi-final.
The game was tied up at 26-26 after an hour before an Owen Booth try sealed the win for the defending champions.
Pukekohe High School defeated Papakura High School 15-10 in the consolation bracket.
Pukekohe High hammered Alfriston College 62-8 in the semi-finals of the Boys’ U15 Open competition and will face Waiuku College in the final, who had to overcome Tuakau/Onewhero 43-41 in a gripping semi-final.
Tuakau/Onewhero reversed that result in the semi-finals of the Boys’ U14 Open competition as they beat Waiuku College 53-29.
Pukekohe High beat Rosehill College 61-5 in the other semi-final.
