Congratulations to the Heat who beat the Auckland Storm in a thrilling Farah Palmer Cup final at ECOLight Stadium yesterday! It was an incredible feat to beat eight-time defending champions Auckland in the final, but even more amazing was that the Heat went through the entire 2016 season undefeated. Well done to all the girls, coaching and management staff for their remarkable success. Check out the Full Match Report from that game HERE.
Counties Manukau B Black suffered a heart-breaking loss at the hands of Auckland, 22-20. CM B Black had fought their way back from 10-0 down to be leading 20-15 with five minutes’ left on the clock. The comeback was led by storming ball carries from Alamanda Motuga, Eukharis Simanu and Josh Dowsing. Motuga opened the scoring in the first half, while Dowsing was next to score early in the second spell. The score was locked at 15-15 with 20 minutes to go. Seluini Moala’s impact off the bench was immense as he ran hard and made big yards on attack. He barged over the tryline to take Counties out in front for the first time in the game.
Ultimately the high error rate in the game finally caught up with the B’s Black, allowing Auckland plenty of opportunities to get their hands on the ball. Auckland rallied up the middle of the field for a number of phases with no luck, so they had a crack out wide and caught Counties short out wide. They scored and the score was 20-20. They got the sideline conversion and stole the game in the 76th minute.
