Pukekohe Mitre 10 Mega and Waiuku Land & Sea Civil will battle it out this weekend for the final top five spot in the McNamara Cup as we enter the final week of round one play.

Pukekohe takes on old foes Manurewa Kidd Contracting at Mountfort Park knowing a win will seal their spot in the all-important top five and keep alive their hopes of lifting the McNamara Cup this season.

“Our season is on the line. It is as simple as that,” Pukekohe coach Sean Polwart said of the task in front of him.

It won’t be easy; Manurewa has won six of their eight matches during pool play and could finish top of the standings depending on this weekend’s results.

Waiuku meanwhile, heads up the hill to tackle reigning premiers from 2019 Bombay Super Freight, who’s loss to Pukekohe last weekend ended their chances of playing in the McNamara Cup playoffs.

Instead, Bombay will feature in the Premiership Plate playoffs, with Papakura Thirsty Liquor, Onewhero Summit Homes, Weymouth and either Waiuku or Pukekohe depending on this week’s results.

Waiuku needs to beat Bombay to have any chance of advancing to the top five. They will then need to rely on Manurewa to beat Pukekohe to allow them the chance of leapfrogging Polwart’s side into the top five.

Top-of-the-table Bombay Pokeno Bacon hosts Ardmore Marist Barfoot & Thompson in the Bob Chandler Cup Premier Reserves competition in a key match for both sides.

Just three rounds remain before the semi-finals and every match will have playoff implications.

Fourth placed Manurewa Wise Property Management will be desperate to beat the visiting Pukekohe side, who sit at the bottom of the standings at present.

Karaka (second) travels down the road to Patumahoe (third) in another key battle in the grade.

Unbeaten Drury will get arguably their biggest test of the Sid Marshall Shield Championship season when they take on Patumahoe Village Bar & Grill at Patumahoe on Saturday.

The also unbeaten Te Kauwhata Proclad hosts Pukekohe while newcomers Te Kohanga travel to Mountfort Park to play Manurewa.

Tuakau will look for their first win of the season against a resurgent Maramarua, who have bounced back from a slow start to be fifth on the table.

Puni makes the trek north to play Papakura at South Park in the final game of the round.

Neighbours Manurewa Barfoot & Thompson and Papakura Thirsty Liquor will square-off in a battle between the two leading sides in the U21 grade at Massey Park in Papakura.

Elsewhere Karaka travels to Patumahoe Domain to face Patumahoe CJM Construction while Waiuku hosts Pukekohe.

The Manurewa Women’s side faces Ponsonby at Mountfort Park in a rematch of last year’s championship final.

The home side will be hoping to avenge their extra time defeat.

Papakura travels to North Harbour for their game while the Patumahoe Searle Group team takes on Te Papapa Onehunga at Clive Howe Reserve.
