Papakura secured their first win of the Coleman Shield season with a terrific 28-24 win over Silverdale in their Coleman Shield clash at War Memorial Park in Silverdale on Saturday.

In what has been a challenging season, Papakura has demonstrated plenty of heart as they have battled away this season and a win on the road will be a huge reward for the effort they have put in.

“It felt good to finally have a win this season and the ladies really deserved it,” said skipper Stacey Brown.

“Every week we have moments of magic out there on the field and the scores don’t really reflect how good our ladies really are.

“Our team definitely put their bodies on the line for one another and play for the people who have always supported and believed in us.

“So to get a win as our season is coming to an end just really lifts our spirits and validates our strength, values, beliefs and our team culture.

“One thing I know is that our ladies play with heart and fight to the very end. I could not be more proud of our team and I am very grateful I get to have one last hit-out with the sisters next week.”

Manurewa safely retained the Counties Sports Hub Shield and kept their spot in the Coleman Shield top four with a 44-5 demolition of Pukekohe on Saturday.

The two sides came into the game fairly evenly matched on the ladder but it was one-way traffic from the opening moments as the home side shot out of the blocks, making full use of a strong wind at their backs.

Pukekohe had their moments but just couldn’t get their hands on the ball enough to cause enough headaches for the Manurewa defence.

Patumahoe suffered a 17-10 loss to Grammar TEC in their Women’s 10s Top 6 match-up at Orakei Domain.

Weymouth suffered a loss by default to Puketapapa Roskill.
