A host of Counties Manukau-based athletes will take part in this weekend’s World Schools Sevens tournament at the Pakuranga Rugby Club in Auckland.

The tournament sees teams fly in from the North America, Asia, Europe and the Pacific Islands, as well as our Australian neighbours. The tournament sees the return of our NZ-based teams who competed back in the delayed 2021 January tournament, making this tournament the biggest one yet.

Action begins from 9am at Pakuranga Rugby Club, Auckland on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 December with four fields going.

David Kama and Joey Taumateine of Wesley College will be playing for the NZ Cavaliers.

Counties Manukau Heat players Margaret Manase and Ardmore Marist's Tayla Norman will wear the NZ Cavaliers colours alongside talented youngster Ffion Penney. The team is coached by Counties Energy Heat skipper Shyanne Thompson.

Should he be fit after hurting himself at the Condors 7s, Thomas Setitaia runs a second time for NZ Fiji. He had a breakthrough season and will be hoping he can finish the year strong.

Lisieli Fotu of Rosehill College continues to impress with her expressive talent on attack, watch her as she fits the mould of the 7s game for Tonga Barbarians.

Fanovaha Asafo of Waiuku College has speed to burn and will be hoping he can bring that to the big stage for Niue Nukututaha.

Rouena Seiloa of Pukekohe High School is a young emerging talent representing Samoan Barbarians at the games while Taeao Pomale-Time of Manurewa High School is on that could light up the tournament representing Samoa Barbarians. A Counties Manukau and Chiefs U18 Representative and captain that leads from the front.
