Counties Manukau and Pukekohe prop Kauvaka Kaivelata has been given a National Development Contract with the Chiefs for the 2023 season.

The talented bookend enjoyed a break-out season in 2022, impressing with club side Pukekohe before getting selected in PIC Steelers coach Reon Graham’s Bunnings Warehouse NPC squad.

Kaivelata is one of five players to pick up a development contract with the Chiefs Super Rugby outfit while club and provincial teammate Jadin Kingi has also been added to the Chiefs wider squad.

Kingi has been named as a replacement player for the Chiefs.

The pair joins Etene Nanai-Seturo and Peniasi Malimali, who were named in the full squad, at the franchise next season.
