Counties Manukau Rugby legend Phil Kingsley Jones is to be remembered in a funeral service at the corporate lounge named after him at Navigation Homes Stadium in Pukekohe.
But his family have made the decision to wait until Auckland moves back to COVID alert level 1 before locking in a date.
“Phil always expressed his wish for a big send off at Navigation Homes Stadium in the lounge named after him,” the Kingsley Jones family confirmed.
“We would like to fulfil this last wish.”
Following yesterday’s Government announcement, Auckland will remain at alert level 2 for at least another fortnight, which limits the number of people who can attend a funeral service.
As a result, a decision has been made to wait until alert level 1 to ensure Phil Kingsley Jones is given the farewell he deserves.
“We will confirm all the funeral service details as soon as Auckland is hopefully back at level 1,” the family added.
“Thanks to everyone for their patience and understanding. We are overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and messages.
“We all know how much he meant to you.”
The CMRFU will provide an update on plans for Phil Kingsley Jones’ funeral as soon as they are confirmed.
