Papakura High School have become the first holders of the 1st XV Challenge Shield after securing a 17-17 draw with Waiuku College on Saturday in Bhana Family Farms Counties Manukau Secondary School Rugby. The two sides could not be separated through the contest and a coin toss post-game decided which school would become the inaugural holders. Papakura will make their first defence this week when they host Tuakau College.
Elsewhere, Tuakau College picked up a 22-5 win over Manurewa High School while the Pukekohe High School 1st XV beat the Pukekohe High XVA side 62-7.
Papakura High School prevailed 26-17 over Alfriston College in Boys U15 Open. In other matches in the grade, Tuakau College beat Pukekohe High 54-14 and Waiuku College triumphed 68-17 over Te Kauwhata College.
In Boys U14 Open, Wesley College edged Pukekohe High 22-19 away from home while St Ignatius beat Tuakau College 32-27.
Alfriston College grabbed a 30-12 win away against Pukekohe High in Girls 12s action. James Cook High blanked Waiuku 39-0 while Papakura High beat Tuakau College 30-10.
