It is with heavy hearts we acknowledge the passing of senior Beachlands Maraetai player Cory following an accident in the club’s Under 85kg match at Te Puru Park on Saturday.

CMRFU CEO Chad Shepherd shares on behalf of the Union “Our heartfelt thoughts and condolences are with Cory’s family, loved ones, teammates and the Beachlands Maraetai Rugby Club at this extremely difficult time.

"Cory was a much-loved member of the Beachland’s Maraetai Under 85kg team and club and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

"We wish to thank the NZ Rugby Foundation who responded quickly with their support to the family and all those affected including match officials, the opposition and spectators.

"Our thanks also go to all those who came to Cory’s aid from members of the community to the first responders.

"We continue to work closely with the New Zealand Rugby Foundation to support Cory’s family, Beachlands Maraetai Rugby Club and all those impacted at this tragic time and we encourage anyone in need of support to reach out to New Zealand Rugby Foundation’s Lisa Kingi-Bon at lisa@rugbyfoundation.nz.”
