On behalf of Counties Manukau Rugby, we want to extend a HUGE thank you to our clubs for making the 2024 Club of Origin a resounding success. We recognize all your hard work—it’s no easy task—but looking back at the turnout of players and supporters, it was absolutely worth it.

As a rugby community, we have so much to celebrate. Coming together to reconnect with our players and coaches is truly special. There’s nothing quite like donning your club jersey and playing for your club again.

A special shoutout to Waiuku Rugby Club for hosting such a significant event. It was an incredible day, and their efforts in organizing everything were outstanding. Thank you, Waiuku Rugby Club!

Our new REO, Liam Sargent, did a fantastic job managing our dedicated referees. We are grateful for their excellent officiating. A big thank you also goes to the CMRFU staff, who worked tirelessly throughout the day, cooking up 1,000 sausages to feed all the players.

This event wouldn’t have been possible without our clubs reconnecting with past coaches, players, and managers. We truly appreciate your efforts in gathering your teams. We had 33 teams compete across four grades, resulting in 74 matches, and the introduction of the under-14 boys’ grade was a great success.

We remain committed to promoting the purpose of the Club of Origin, encouraging past players and coaches to return and engage with their clubs. It’s vital for players to experience club culture and maintain connections, which helps grow sustainable teams in the senior grades. This initiative also provides our clubs with the opportunity to recruit players for the upcoming season. The CMRFU will continue to emphasize the importance of the Club of Origin program in our community.
