Manurewa are the sole remaining local club still in action in the Coleman Shield as they face off against College Rifles in the semi-finals on Saturday.
The two clubs have been leading contenders in the competition for a number of years – they came up against each other just once this season with the Auckland outfit claiming a 30-24 victory in late May.
After having to work hard to get past determined Pukekohe in the quarter-finals last week, Manurewa had to call on their big game experience to ensure they progressed.
Co-coach Bruce Kaino helped Manurewa break their McNamara Cup drought last year as he lifted the famous trophy and knows what it takes to win on the big stage.
“I think, over the season, we have been working on our patience in their 22,” Kaino told Counties Sports Hub. “Just capitalising on our opportunities when they come because when we play the more structured sides, they will take their opportunities.
“Taking points on offer. Making sure we are doing everything we trained and sticking to our systems is the key.”
The game kicks off at 2.45pm at College Rifles Park.
In the women's 10s Patumahoe travel to meet Puketapapa Roskill while Weymouth take on Waitemata.
